Early Intervention

Through my work in wilderness therapy programs, residential treatment centers and outdoor education programs I learned a vital lesson. The impact of the helping professional is magnified if there are multiple layers of connection. What makes our program truly special is our integrated approach. We connect with our clients through individual meetings, family meetings and activity-based groups. Similarly, we collaborate with existing therapists and doctors to ensure coordination of care.

We customize our services to fit each family’s unique needs, drawing from the following program components:

Mentor meetings. Individual meetings with Master's level mentors provide a supportive environment for our clients to set personal goals and explore strategies to confront challenges. The individual meetings empower the client to work on areas such as goal-setting, family communication, positive self-identity and healthy decision making.

Parent Coaching sessions. When a young person is struggling, the entire family is affected. Our professionally trained parent coaches offer parents the support and guidance to build a new relationship with their son or daughter. Parents work with the parent coach to identify key areas in their interactions with their teen. During each session, parents are able to explore specific strategies in these areas. By working with a trained parent coach, parents gain new perspective and are strengthened in their parenting.

Solutions-focused family meetings. Open family communication is perhaps the most important component in family growth. Utilizing a parent-teen mediation model, we facilitate family meetings to address key areas in the family dynamic. Co-facilitated by our family coordinator and the client’s program mentor, the meetings help families work together to find practical solutions to day-to-day challenges.

Community-building groups. Teens need healthy peer interactions but it is often difficult to find the right venue. We structure our groups around activities such as indoor rock climbing, art and yoga. Through our groups, young people build self- esteem and find new friends.

Volunteer Opportunities. We want our clients to practice leadership and develop their work ethic. Our program mentors help clients find volunteer and work opportunities. In many instances, our clients work with our Aspiring Youth groups and summer camps.

Case Management. We offer after-hours phone based support. We also consult extensively with the family’s support system: therapists, psychiatrists, residential program therapists and school professionals. Additionally we provide referral options to an extensive network of local and national resources.
