"In 2003, with input from colleagues in the field, we set out to create a premier home-based transition program. Having worked in wilderness programs and residential treatment centers, I have seen the transforming impact that a mentor can have on a teenager's life and I am passionate about extending that impact to the home environment.
In the Collaborative Coaching Program we offer our students continuing support as they navigate the transition back home. What makes the Collaborative Coaching Program truly special is that we also offer parents the support they need to re-build strained relationships and take on new roles with their children. Our goal is not only to help students experience success, but to help families experience success".

The Post-Program Transition
Wilderness therapy programs, therapeutic boarding schools and residential treatment centers provide a powerful opportunity for teens to experience personal growth. With professional staff and a positive environment, teens who had previously struggled are able to rediscover their personal strengths and thrive.
The post-program transition is the student's opportunity to continue the positive growth that was initiated during their residential experience. The post-program transition is also the point at which families are able to rebuild strained relationships and practice new communication. As a home-based transition program, we are privileged to work with students and families during this crucial phase of treatment.
Transition Services
The experienced professionals in the Collaborative Coaching Program work with each family to create a comprehensive home transition plan. The transition plan includes work on the family's home agreement, as well as an overview of student goals and parent goals. Through the course of the program, the home agreement and the student and parent goals are updated and refined.
The Collaborative Coaching Program provides support to teens and families during the post-program transition through three distinct modes:
- Individual meetings with a Master's level mentor
In individual meetings, our clients explore their personal goals for the post-program transition as they work on the "New Summits Success Plan". In addition to helping create a transition plan, our mentors establish a supportive relationship where the client can build self-esteem and openly discuss challenges.
- Parent Coaching Services
For parents, the post-program transition is often filled with both optimism and uncertainty. By working with a parent coach, parents identify strategies to re-build strained relationships and set appropriate boundaries. Parent coaching sessions are customized to address specific issues that are most relevant to each family.
- Solutions-Focused Family Meetings
Through facilitated family meetings, families work together to find practical solutions to day-to-day challenges. The family meetings are an opportunity to apply new communication skills as the home agreement is collaboratively discussed and updated. When appropriate, family intensives can be conducted using Ryther Child Center's challenge course and are an excellent opportunity to practice solutions-focused family communication.
Additional services such as 24/7 phone support, theme-specific groups and UA drug testing are also available. Through our integrative approach, families in the Collaborative Coaching Program receive comprehensive support during the post-program transition.
